State the DAN now has chapters in every State of the federation.
It is made up of people with diabetes and careers of people
with diabetes. The current president of DAN Prof. A.E Ohwovoriole
is the Head , endocrine and metabolism unit of the department
of Medicine, CMUL/LUTH. He is on secondment to the Delta state
University where he is the Provost of the college of medicine.
He is on his second term of office. He took over from Dr. Borodo
of Kano state. The association has had many experienced people
in change over the years who continue to inspire members. Some
of them are Prof. T. Johnson, Prof Onyemelukwe, the late Prof.
J. A. Kuti, Chief (Dr.) Sonny Kuku and a host of others. The
association is affiliated on the international scene with the
international Diabetes Federation. The association has cordial
relationship with other professional bodies like the Nigerian
society of endocrinology & Metabolism NSEM (www.nsem.org)
, the Nigerian chapter of the American Association of Clinical
Endocrinologists(www.aace.com and www.aacenigeria.com), the
Nutrition society of Nigeria. Society for Diabetes Educator
of Nigeria and several other bodies.
State level: monthly meeting in different
Government / private secondary medical centre. Annual
screening programmes for diabetes in the community.
Monthly guest lectures.

Level: IDF congresses every 3 years, the
present one is for capetown, south African, December
3rd – 7th 2006
DAN helps to promote the physical and
mental well being of the person with diabetes, their
families and their careers.
Membership: it is open to all Nigerians
with diabetes, health care providers for people with
diabetes and other interested people. Annual dues are
(N)1,000.00 per person and (N)10,000 per state chapter.
Corporate membership attracts (N)50,000.00 individual
life membership is (N)20,000.00
